Salt Lake City and County sought to transform their downtown area into a vibrant creative district that would solidify its reputation as a cultural hub, both for residents and visitors. While Salt Lake already enjoyed a strong tourism brand and high levels of arts participation, the goal was to harness its remarkable concentration of cultural venues, talent, and community engagement to establish a unified identity for the district, now branded as THE BLOCKS. The Cultural Core Plan was crafted as a comprehensive roadmap for the joint cultural district, focusing on strategies to amplify creative vitality through coordinated efforts in creative placemaking, marketing, and audience development. Four years into implementation, under the management of Downtown Salt Lake Presents, THE BLOCKS has become a thriving hub of cultural activity.
